Desktop keeps crashing. When I reboot, I get a message saying "dqs training failed on previous boot, reverted to slower dram speed"
So a friend gave me the computer for free because it's having this problem.
When it crashes it doesn't give me a blue screen of death, the fans keep spinning and the num lock light on the keyboard doesn't go out. Also, I can't shut down the computer from this state by holding down the power button; I have to unplug it for a couple seconds, then it restarts and stops at the bios screen telling me the "dqs training failed on previous boot, reverted to slower dram speed" then i can press F1 to continue and it will boot and then I have about another 5-30 minutes until it crashes again.
I've replaced the cmos battery and the guy I got it from said that he's tried multiple sticks of ram on this machine and has gotten the same problem.
I don't think it's the hdd because I've reinstalled the os and when the problem persisted.
OS: windows 7 ultimate 64-bit
CPU: amd athalon 64 x2 dual-core processor 5200+ (2 cpus)
Ram: 2 2gb sticks of ram
GPU: nvidia geforce 6600 LE
Edit: So I decided the problem was the motherboard. bought a new one and the problem persists. Now I'm guessing it's the cpu. I guess.
